Dear Fellow Alumnae,

As the new chairman of SHCCAA, firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to our fellow alumnae for your support and participation in SHCCAA in all these years. Your generous support in the future will definitely be the drive for us to make SHCCAA a continuous success in bringing our fellow alumnae together and spreading the spirit of our alma mater.

The year of 2010 not only marks the beginning of a new decade but is also a great year for our Alma Mater! It is the 150th anniversary of Sacred Heart Canossian College! In the pipeline, there will be a series of events to celebrate this festive year, beginning with a fabulous Musical on May 6, followed by the Eucharistic Mass on 11 May and you shouldn’t miss our 150th Anniversary Dinner on 19 November at JW Marriott Hotel. It would be a great opportunity to catch up with Sacred Heartists of different generations.

One hundred and fifty years of history means a lot to our alumnae, who have spent the most precious years of growing up under the education and influence of Sacred Heart. It also means the influence Sacred Heart has been dissipating in society when its students make contributions with the spirit and teaching of their alma mater in various areas. Therefore, we are amazed by the courage, vision and love which our Canossian sisters had shown when they decided to start a local girls’ school in 1860, when education was even rare for boys at that time. 1860 was the year of the Second Opium War and Hong Kong was only under the colonial reign of the British for 18 years. The difficulty of a new startup, the hardship under the poor environment and the scarcity of resources made such mission seem impossible at the beginning. With God’s love and blessings, they, together with their colleagues and students, walked through the rocky road of time and Sacred Heart blossoms with its unique belief of education for all.

History tells the story and legacy needs vision. The school is planning to build a new extension with modern facilities to meet the future needs of our young generations. Our fellow students will soon have a better campus where they can learn and grow with joy and wisdom.

The Alumnae Association will continuously support our Alma Mater in its development as it has always been. We know 2010, the 150th Anniversary of Sacred Heart Canossian College, will be a special year in its history.

May God bless you and enlighten your hearts with happiness and prosperity!
