Class of 1963, Golden Jubilee Reunion Celebrations

A Golden Anniversary is certainly a memorable event that calls for a whole series of celebrations and that is what the graduates of ’63 lined up for the participants who came in from Canada, the US and Australia to join them. The highlight was the dinner on 16th November 2013 where over 40 participants reminisce about school events, teachers, friends, pranks and indelible incidents that coloured secondary school life. A backdrop featuring different parts of the school buildings that are imprinted in the hearts and minds of all became the centre for snapshots.

A booklet with the ’63 school magazine cover was filled with photos contributed by some of us to keep alive the glorious moments – the school picnic, the speech day, graduation dinner and so on. It makes one breathless as one flips over all the precious pages. Before the dinner, a visit was made to the Legislative Council complex on 14th and participants were treated to a guided tour, followed by lunch at the iBakery at Tamar Park and mass at the SHCC chapel.

On 15th, a Symphony of Lights dinner cruise around the harbour was an opportunity for a different perspective of the Hong Kong night scene. Following the dinner on 19th, a vegetarian lunch at Chi Nin Nunnery & Nan Lian Garden was organized. The graduates joined the Alumnae Association Annual Dinner and presented a donation to the Canossian Missions and the school. All the participants, especially those who came in from abroad were exhilarated with the celebrations. But what is most invaluable was the fact that friendships that have lasted half a century is still kept alive and burning brightly and contacts renewed and faces that re-surfaced bring tears of joy. May the spirit of SHCC live on!
